HISTORY OF ARTVİN
The Huns from the Turkish tribes who came to Central Asia placed in Artvin. Immigration of Turks to Anatolia continued until Alparslan’s 1071 Malazgirt Victory. Finally, the nine Oghuzes settled in Anatolia in 1071. After the war, the Seljuk Turks passed away. After the Seljuks; The Mongols, Ilkhanids, Algerians, Karakoyunlu, Timurids, Akkoyunlular and Safeviler dominated this city. During the reign of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror, it was included in the borders of the Ottoman Empire. In 1878 Ottoman-Russian War, it was occupied by Russia. After the Turkish War of Independence against to the Armenian army, Artvin got back to motherland on March 7, 1921.
