HISTORY OF KARS

The research revealed that the history of Kars dates back to the Polished Stone Devrine (9000-8000 BC). The region later was dominated by Hurrians, Urartians, Scythians, Parthians, Sasanis and Byzantines. In 1064, Selçuk Sultan Alpaslan conquered the city and its surroundings, thus opening the Anatolian route to the Turkish tribes. The Turkish states such as Mongols and Akkoyunlular and Karakoyunlular also ruled the city and its surroundings.
