HISTORY O NEVŞEHİR

Nevşehir and it’s highlights have a history of about five thousand years. The first inhabitants of the region were the Hittites and gave the name “Nissa”. After the Hittites, the Phrygians and Lydians ruled the area. The Islamic armies conquered this area in the “Nigde-Aksaray-Kayseri” triangle and became a ruler for 300 years. When the Islamic State was weakened by internal rebellious and separatist activities, the region was went under the influence of Byzantium. After the Malazgirt Victory in 1071, the Turks gave the name “Muşkara”. After the collapse of the Seljuk State Ilkhanids, in the middle of the 14th century, Eratnaoğulları and Karamanoğulları dominated this region. At the end of the fourteenth century, Nevşehir and it’s vicinity were under the domination of the Ottoman State.
